Wellington Xmas Hamper Race Day
Jenny O'Niel, Sunday, 10 January 2010Lake Wellington Yacht Club’s last meeting attracted a strong field of mainly RL24s and Hartley 16s who relished the gusty and stiff breeze. The second legs for the Club Championship and Sheryl Trophy were held, with Mitchell Dyer (pictured with crew) in Whatever winning both the Championship and Personal rating. Second on Championship was John Shepard in Cedar and third Simon Walsh on Ohau-rua. On personal, second was bought in by Rod Doak in Hissing Sid and John Shepard again in Cedar.
The breeze picked up in the afternoon, 19 knots with gusts of 26 knots and chop of a metre, so the afternoon race – the Christmas Hamper – was cancelled. The Hamper was decided by raffle and won by the rescue boat’s crew of Ken Griffith and Barrie Phillips.
